About us
Coastal Rugby is a proud rugby club based on the Coast of Taranaki, 2 kms from the beach and 10kms from the majestic Mount Taranaki/Egmont where rugby, fishing, surfing, skiing, walkways and many other outdoor activities are our way of life and within a short distance from our club.

The Club is renowned for its success and enjoying all aspects of its great club environment.
We are a part of the Taranaki Rugby Union who are the current NZ National Provincial Champions.

Success story
On the field, we have won Taranaki premier titles in 2009, 2012 and runner up in 2014. We have also won ten titles in other divisions during our 21 year history following the amalgamation of our Coastal clubs in 1995. During this time we have had two players go onto be All Blacks, eight players promoted to Taranaki, six players promoted to Super Rugby and 11 New Zealand representatives.

Off the field, we have a strong supporter base with upwards of a 1,000 people turning out to watch our local teams in action on Saturday afternoons. The club is also one of the wealthiest in NZ through its ownership of an 80 hectare farm, leasing and managing a farm and owning approximately 300 head of cattle.

Recruitment
Whilst we are recruiting in all positions and teams, in particular we are recruiting experienced players in the following premiership positions who, if good enough, could also play for our provincial team Taranaki (see table below).

All players get the chance to trial for the Coastal Rugby Premier and Development teams with trials held in early March each year over a period of three weeks.

Rugby club scores its own dairy farm

We are the first rugby club to own a dairy farm. Coastal Rugby & Sports Club

A proud Taranaki rugby club has become possibly the first in the country to own its own dairy farm.

Established 21 years ago, the Coastal Rugby & Sports Club submitted a tender for the purchase this season of an 80ha farm near Oaonui from Anne Fleming and family.

“The purchase was a big gamble for the club,” said club stalwart Mark Trolove, who liaises between the club, sharemilkers Peter and Larissa Kelbrick and farm supervisor Peter Moffitt.

“There are strong links between coastal farmers, players, former players, the club and the ANZ Bank, which has been really supportive of this venture.”
